Declaration of Arbroath

Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, Former U.S. Senate Chaplain and Former President, Saint Andrew's Society of Washington, D.C.

ABOUT

Just as every individual has a genealogy, so does every organization. Since 1997, individuals and local organizations such as the Clans of Scotland USA, the St. Andrew's Society of Washington, D.C., the St. Andrew's Society of Baltimore, the Living Legacy of Scotland, and the Scottish American Military Society worked collaboratively to produce National Tartan Day events in the Washington, D.C., area. The impetus for the creation of a single local and apolitical organization to coordinate these efforts was provided by former U.S. Senate Chaplain and former St. Andrew's Society of Washington, D.C., President Lloyd Ogilvie.

At his urging, official representatives of local Scottish-American organizations created the National Capital Tartan Day Committee, Inc. NCTDC, Inc. is the original Washington, DC based organization created specifically to support and promote Tartan Day in the United States. A nonprofit, tax-exempt membership organization, NCTDC was incorporated in the District of Columbia in March, 2002. Membership is open to all persons interested in celebrating and promoting the Tartan Day holiday, regardless of Scottish birth or ancestry and regardless of whether they live in or near Washington, DC. NCTDC has received 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service (Tax ID #31473).

NCTDC is completely apolitical and nonpartisan; it is not affiliated with any political party or movement, foreign or domestic, and has no purpose other than to promote knowledge of, and support for, Tartan Day in the United States. All contributions to NCTDC, including membership dues, are tax-exempt to the extent permitted by law.
